Suzhou, the cradle of Wu Culture, is a city with a history of more than 2,500 years, tracing back to the later Shang Dynasty. While talking about Suzhou, the old saying mentions it as a “Paradise on the Earth” or the "East Venice of the World”, referring to its natural beauty, classical gardens, bridges and waters, traditional operas and soft dialect tone.
Route Description:
Get on your bike ,cycle down to Pingjiang historic block, which is suzhou people regard it as the miniature of old Suzhou. Thought just covers only 0.4 square kilo meters, concentrated the most dense river course, bridges and river lanes, and also lots of old houses from Ming and Qing dynasty, old temples. These constructed the most pleasant view of small bridges, gliding waters and houses. And then we will visit Suzhou Museum. The newly reconstructed Suzhou Museum houses over 30,000 Chinese relics. Renowned collections include Ming and Qing Dynasty paintings and calligraphy, jade, textiles, as well as ancient Chinese craftwork and silk. Originally founded in 1960, the museum underwent redesigned by world-famous architect I.M. Pei, the beautiful new complex includes three extensive exhibition halls and a very nice museum shop. Later we will riding pass the Shangtang Street to Tiger Hill .The famous trading street (Suzhou street ) in Beijing Summer Place built by queen mother Cixi of Qing dynasty imitated Shangtang street of Suzhou. After Tiger Hill ,we will riding through ancient canal and finish our explore tour at starting point. |
